SITE OF THE INSTITUTE
Martha’s Vineyard is a scenic island just off Cape
Cod and can easily be reached by regular ferry or air service. “The
Vineyard” is noted for its beautiful scenery,
exciting shops, restaurants, and music venues, as well as celebrity residents,
particularly authors and artists. It provides a refreshing and tranquil
retreat from the distractions of daily life. The Vineyard’s many
beaches, trails, wildlife refuges, bookstores, theatres, and galleries
are all readily accessible.
Northeastern University has operated The Martha’s Vineyard Summer Institute since 1980. Participants have come from all over the world to attend various seminars, often focused on writing, reading, teaching, and learning. Whatever the topic, the Institute has always been embued with a learn-by-doing philosophy of education.
Lodging is in comfortable houses within walking/biking distance of the Institute. This type of lodging is especially conducive to teams and group building. Discussions begun in sessions at the Institute are continued and expanded upon in the houses. To the extent possible, participants from the same team will be housed together.
